A few suggestions:
Separate and number your pictures into categories with a unique theme:
(the early years, wedding, graduation, ceremonies, celebrations,
children, vacations, sporting events). Normally, chronological order
is best. We can make introductory slides with text for each category.
Text can be layered on slides. You can mix prints, slides, negatives, and even video clips on a
single DVD.

MPEG or DVD and send you a "Director's Cut" for your editing. Review the
MPEG or DVD on television or computer, get family input, and email us with your menu titles
and picture text changes. We will store your project on our editing
systems and apply your changes for only a very reasonable price.
Additional copies can
then be made of the final version.
Not
All Slide And Film Scanning Is Created Equal
Movies-2-DVD slide and
film scanning is an exceptional value!
- First,
all Movies-2-DVD 35mm Slide and Negative scanning is performed with High Resolution
Professional Film
Scanners set at either 2,000 or 4,000 DPI
(Dots Per Inch) with 42-bit resolution = 14 bits for each color (Red -
Green - Blue). The higher the optical and digital resolution the finer the image detail.
For MPEG or DVD slideshows, we
use 42-Bit, 2,000 DPI
optical scan resolution (1,811 x 2,677 pixels, JPEG quality
= 100,
file size
approximately 2.0 to 2.5 Megabytes).
Each high resolution 4,000 DPI
optical scan contains 3,780 x 5,669 pixels,
and depending on the file type (JPEG, TIFF, and RAW available) the scan
image can very large. Once again, the higher the resolution the finer
the image detail that can be preserved. You won't be satisfied with the poor
picture quality from lower resolution optical scanning.

Second, we utilize
fourth color "infrared" film scanning technology
to
automatically remove
dust, scratches, and other imperfections
on most color film
scan images.
This is such an important feature that we include it at no additional
charge.
- Third,
as part of our professional color restoration and editing service, we personally examine every scanned image in a
professional computer photographic system. We adjust color balance,
brightness, contract, and other parameters as needed to
correct every scan image.
Some dust, scratches, finger prints, spots, or chemical marks can be
corrected in
software. The layers of color film emulsions (cyan, magenta, yellow) do
not age the same.
NOTE: We offer an entry level service of our 35mm SLIDE SCANNING without professional color
restoration, cropping, and editing - but with the same high resolution scanning
that also includes automatic color, brightness, and contrast
adjustments, and image rotation to correct orientation - this is a great value
for a digital archive of your slides.
- Fourth,
Your slides will be returned securely packed in
quality storage containers. (or your containers, if you prefer)

This is an un-retouched photo of one of our client's 35mm slide scanning

- Sixth, the
JPEG image files are provided on a
USB 3.0 Flash or Hard DRIVE, CD (Recordable Compact Disc),
or DVD-R.
You may use one or all of the JPEG images for another project, print
some of the pictures, or archive the CD for safe keeping and future
generations. Large scan project files are written to Flash or Hard
Drive, or DVD-R media.
- Seventh, we
can also provide scanning at 4,000+ DPI
resolution with 42-bit color, 14-bits for
each color (Red-Green-Blue), to JPEG or TIFF image files (other RAW file
types available). Note: 42-bit, 4000 DPI resolution TIFF files are about
70
Megabytes, and RAW image files can approach
140 Megabytes per
scanned image.
- Eighth,
we want you to get all of your pictures.
We crop to preserve all of
the image, and also use "title safe" encoding to compensate for
television overscan. Pictures that are oriented as portraits
will be centered on the Television (DVD Slideshow) with black borders on each side.
Landscape pictures will nearly fill the screen. Televisions
are adjusted (or maladjusted) to overscan 10 to 15%, which clips the
edges of pictures.
Contact us if you have
film negatives or slides, but are not really sure what is on them. We will
gladly work as your video editing service on a time and materials basis.
Prior to shipping
your slides or negatives, please consider these recommendations.
- Group your slides
into categories (year, weddings, births, celebrations...). Your slides
may already be in categories if they are in boxes or carousels. You will
be able to select and play each category from the DVD menu.
- Sort and orient
(front / back) the slides in the sequence and orientation to play on the
DVD slide show. Once again, this may already be done.
- We would appreciate
if you would count and number your slides. Send us an edit sheet with
the name of each category, and the number of slides in each. However, if
you package them securely using several rubber bands (with a category
label attached), or ship us slide storage boxes or carousels, we can use
this sequence - and will count and number your slides for you.
- If you would like a
title slide, or a title slide for each slide show, send us the text and we will insert it as the first slide
in the slide show. (EXAMPLE: THE SMITH FAMILY PICTURES: 1950'S TO
1980'S).
- If TOP of picture is
not obvious, please put an ARROW indicating UP on slide mount.
- If your slides have
been remounted, or it is not obvious which side is to screen, please
write "TSTS" for THIS SIDE TO SCREEN to indicate the correct slide
orientation. (see more in our FAQ section).
- You may wish to use "zipper" plastic bags and "bubble wrap"
to cushion and secure your slides in a shipping box. Use slide boxes, plastic sleeves,
slide carousels or rubber bands to
maintain the correct sorting order
and further protect your slides.
3D or Stereo Slides:
- Do you have "3D" or
stereo mounted slides? The mounts may be plastic, cardboard, or
aluminum. These pictures were taken with stereo cameras. We are
successfully scanning the images from Holson Products, EMDE, and Realist
3D stereo slides. Perhaps the pictures of your wedding are on this
unique product. We do not remove the film or damage the 3D stereo film
holder. These specialty scans are made at 1,200 DPI, with color
correction, but without infrared dust and scratch removal. Our charge
per image is the same as our enhanced slide scanning. We recommend our
slide transition feature for viewing these unique pictures in a slide
show.
PREPARING YOUR ORDER:
As part of providing our
services, Movies-2-DVD normally returns your slides in new storage boxes.
Please record
any information from the old slide boxes that you want preserved. Number
your slides or slideshow categories in the sequence you want the slideshow
to play on the DVD. The DVD menu will be customized with your "DVD Title"
(example: "The Smith Family Memories"), and DVD "Chapter Titles" for each
slideshow category (example: Chapter 1: 1950 - The Wedding). Send us the
DVD Title and Chapter Titles along with your order, and email as an
attachment (a Word Document is fine) to:
